Legal Info Concerning The Martial Arts
August 6, 2009 by Sensei Mike
Earlier to day while searching the internet for laws concerning the martial arts I found many different resources online line that might be beneficial to our students or any other martial artist that would like to know more cornering the legal ramifications if they ever find themselves in need of using the martial arts to defend themselves. Before we go any further there are two tips that I suggest every one remember when concerning self defense.
First – if you are attacked – in many states if you strike your attacker – even though you were trying to defend yourself you may still be arrested and may suffer civil lawsuits. Secondly – the best self defense is to make sure you do not go somewhere that you will need to defend yourself. For example you are less likely to have to defend yourself if you and your date or friends go to a movie or restaurant as opposed to being at a bar at 3am.

Haha I agree I have seen too many VMAC Fighters (Wannabe) get knocked out at Charlie O’s!! ;)
God bless the USA, and all her laws.
Your second tip will probably keep you out of trouble for the better part of your life. While Im an martial artist and an avid beleiver that everyone should know how to defend themselves, i also beleive that most people who live using common sense safety precautions wont ever be forced to defend themselves. For the small percent that does will be pure misfortune.
Agreed with second tips, it would be stupid if I were to defend myself and suffered civil lawsuits later especially when you’re dealing with the drunks
