The Stallion Returns in a Rematch

Shaun Gay is set to return to action in a rematch at Bud Light’s Winter Heat against David Derby. This rematch has an interesting backstory, as follows:

Several years ago at a Summer Heat event, Shaun “The Stallion” Gay was stood up by his scheduled opponent. This was a shady turn of events, especially after the opponent had trash talked our hometown hero vigorously.

Up steps a gentleman by the name of David “Do or Die” Derby. Mr. Derby was in Atlanta for a fight event on the previous evening and his fight had fallen through as well. One of his ju jitsu coaches called the promoter the day of the event and Mr. Derby accepted the fight. Shaun Gay, having just enjoyed a piece of cheesecake at a fine establishment called Hooter’s because he was not expecting a fight at that late juncture, eagerly accepted the bout.

Mr. Derby jumped in car drove to Valdosta from Atlanta. He arrived in time to sign his contract, have about a 20 minute warmup, and fight The Stallion. Here’s the match:

Mr. Derby later contacted the promoter and asked for a rematch, which was scheduled to take place at last June’s Summer Heat. Shaun Gay had been recently released from suspension by the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission due to several injuries he had taken in professional MMA bouts.

As luck would have it, Mr. Derby broke down on the way to the weigh in for Summer Heat. He could have made it the next day, however, safety rules of the GAEC forbid weighing in the day of the event.

However, Mr. Derby has guaranteed his appearance at this coming event with travel via a new vehicle and his training partners. Gay and the Bud Light’s Winter Heat promoter were both interested in extending a rematch to Mr. Derby for his fine sportsmanship and for taking the initial match under extenuating circumstances.

Bud Light’s Winter Heat is a professional and amateur fight mixed martial event which will be held on June 20th at Mathis City Auditorium. Doors will open at 6 pm.
