Update:  Jeremy May, the bad boy from The Ultimate Fighter – Season 7, will be present at Winter Heat to greet the public and sign autographs.  Jeremy is most remembered from the show for his conflict caused by his tampering with Matt Brown’s dipping tobacco.

Three Titletown residents are hoping to bring home a different type of title on February 21st.  Brett Chism, Dicky Willson, and Brent Johnson are contending in the weight classes for title belts at Winter Heat.  Winter Heat is a MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fight event, like the UFC.

MMA fighters may use a variety of martial arts techniques; like takedowns from wrestling, striking from kickboxing, or jiu jitsu submissions; in an effort to stop their opponent.  It will be held at Mathis City Auditorium and the doors will open at 6 pm.

Currently there are amateur and professional 14 MMA matches slated for the event.  Brett “Bedtime” Chism (8-4 pro) will be facing Bernard Rutherford (7-4 pro) of Atlanta for the Georgia State Professional
Light Heavyweight title.  Both of these fighters prefer to stand and strike, so this match should be a barnburner.  Chism is just coming off winning the “Fight of the Night” at the MTX Audio event in Las Vegas and is looking to continue his winning streak.

Dicky “The Shocker” Willson will be fighting Jacob Adams of Douglas for the Heat Events Mid-Heavyweight Amateur title.  Both Willson and Adams
have won 3 fights each and are looking to move to 4 wins.  Look for a lot of action in this
one.

Brent “War Machine” Johnson will be fighting Eric McClure of Jacksonville,
Florida, for the Heat Events Super Heavyweight Amateur belt.  These guys are going to collide in an effort to walk away with the title.

Other local fighters include:  “The Beast from the Southeast” Shawn Snow
(3-1 pro); amateurs – David Adams v Elijah Miller, Joel Weldon v Bobby
Tyler, Austin Williams v Dan McCauley, John Hicks, Tony Ritter, and David
Stephenson.  Additionally, there are two advanced amateur rules matches and another pro match.
Tickets are available at Money Depot (229-245-8622), Family Pizza, Southland Pawn, and Hall’s Family Fitness.  See www.valdostamac.com for
