NAVILLE DEFEATS STEPHEN LEDBETTER!!!
January 18, 2009 by Sensei

VMAC’s own Kamrin Naville defeated Stephen Ledbetter by TKO in the main event at Wild Bill’s in Atlanta tonight! Ledbetter was heavily favored to win this match. Prior to the match, Ledbetter had amassed a 13-1 record. Ledbetter’s only loss was a decision to Jeff Curran in the WEC. WEC is featured regularly on the Versus channel. Ledbetter is a member of the Hardcore Gym which has produced fighters such as UFC veterans Forrest Griffin and Rory Singer.

The first round opened with an exchange of boxing. Naville cut Ledbetter above the left eye. Lacking the reach of Ledbetter, Naville began working some kicks in his combinations. Ledbetter chose to take it to the ground and took Naville down. The action on the ground was back and forth at that point. Ledbetter had guillotines which Naville escaped, several times flipping his feet and body over both his and Ledbetter’s heads to escape Ledbetter pulling guard to stretch Naville out. Naville had top position for a while, attempting to ground and pound, and establish a strong position with Ledbetter escaping, Naville attempted control and Ledbetter landed another takedown. Naville also missed an armbar attempt during the round. The round ended with Ledbetter achieving a seated triangle that was very deep and tight. Naville hung on patiently until the bell rang.

The second round began with some more boxing and Naville pushing Ledbetter into the ropes. Moving to a neutral corner, the fighters jockeyed for position and Naville secured a tight bodylock on Ledbetter’s waist. Ledbetter attempted to escape the lock and Naville maintained the hold from the back. Ledbetter goes down and Naville takes the back, wraps his arms in for a choke while sinking his legs deep. Ledbetter drops more and Naville flattens him out further and begins pounding the sides of his head hard with both hands. Referee Tony Mullinax stops the contest as Ledbetter is unable to defend himself, awarding Naville a TKO and becoming the only opponent of more than a dozen to stop Ledbetter.

Lance adds details that I missed —–
Naville/Ledbetter was an awesome fight to watch. They put on a wrestling clinic in the ring. Ledbetter kept going for guillotines and Naville kept avoiding getting caught in guard. The first round ended with Ledbetter on Naville with a mounted triangle. Second round was more of the same guillotine attempts until Naville ended up in Ledbetter’s guard, he passed straight to mount. Ledbetter rolled but Naville stayed tight and secured his hooks and took Ledbetter’s back, flatted him out, and started throwing bombs. Referee had to stop the fight.
It was a very, very entertaining fight for all of the fans.
