Codey vs Moore for Title

January 14, 2011 by Sensei

Oh boy.  As the World Turns has nothing on the changes of opponents that Codey Eddy has endured.  Here is the Reader’s Digest version:

-Tuzer Chism and Codey were fighting for title belt, Tuzer gets pretty sick

-Robert Shonfelt steps in to fight Codey for title

-Shonfelt gets food poisoning Monday

-Greg Dennis steps in to fight Codey for the title

-Dennis gets injured last night

-Teddy Moore’s opponent, Anthony Hunt, is in car wreck (he’s ok, hurt his knee)

-Commission approves last minute change due to medical reasons

-Teddy Moore and Codey are fighting for title!!!

At Summer Heat, Codey Eddy made his amateur MMA debut against Tuzer Chism.  In this controversial match, Chism fans were very disappointed by two calls made by a new referee.

The referee told Chism that he could not use his own shorts to hold them to block a kimura lock.  This was incorrect.  The Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission rules are that fighters may hold their own shorts, but not the shorts of their opponent.

Following that call, Eddy was able to sink his kimura deeper, see photo on right.  Then, he moved it higher and into the possible injury zone (this 907215792_D2mdU-M[1]would depend normally on the flexibility and pain tolerance of the effected fighter).  The referee then stopped the match and awarded a win via referee stoppage to Eddy.

In the referee’s defense, this is a standard practice.  It is the policy of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission to protect amateur fighters in the case of a deep and possibly dangerous submission hold.

907212695_xP5Xu-M[1]In an effort to give both Chism and Eddy a satisfying outcome, a match was offered to them for a title.  Things were moving forward in that direction and Chism developed some health issues that prevented his training and preparing for this match.

Then, a search for a suitable candidate was launched and several opponents considered.  Finally, the match was offered to Praxis MMA fighter, Robert Shonfelt.  VMAC is an affiliate of Praxis, so, Robert was happy to step up and fight in the place of a VMAC member.

Codey Eddy has been training at Augusta Boxing Club since moving to Augusta, Georgia.  He has been concentrating on his striking with a champion professional fighter.  Not neglecting his grappling, he has been training in wrestling with a junior olympic wrestling competitor.

Now, Shonfelt and Eddy are ready to fight for the Heat Promotions Novice Amateur Middleweight title.  Eddy expressed interest in this match because Shonfelt is a pretty good grappler.  Whatever the case – whether the match features grappling, kickboxing, or a mix; the fans can look for fireworks at Winter Heat in this match.

Bud Light’s Winter Heat is set to bring mixed martial arts action back to Valdosta. This event will feature over a dozen amateur and professional mixed martial arts bouts.  The event, also brought to you by Rockin Rodeo, will be held on January 29 at Mathis City Auditorium. Doors will open to the public at 6:00 pm.  See here for ticket information.  CARD IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

So i guess food poisioning on a tuesday means you can’t possibly fight on a saturday now? Third opponent in less then a month damn.I guess all you people that picked him to win this fight on this poll were wrong since he isn’t even going to show up and even the promoter thinks he is scared to fight a 1-0 amatuer, again just wow.

Just saw this. LOL at all the smack talk.
Yeah, food poisoning on Monday… he dropped 13 lbs. in 24 hours. Was severely dehydrated. Was out of work 3 days and no training at all until the week after. Not something he could bounce back from in a few days and compete at a high level. Trust me, he had seen Eddy fight and was not impressed at all.
After seeing Eddy’s performance that night and knowing what Shonfelt is capable of, Shonfelt would have trucked him that night. Is it maybe possible to get a Shonfelt/Eddy fight set up for Winter Heat this year? Let’s see who’s really scared….
