Change for Chism in Main Event
—Brett Chism to face Matt Dorsten for Heat Professional Middleweight Title—–
For those new to the sport of mixed martial arts, the crazy thing about preparing to fight is fighters often become injured in training and then are unable to compete. So is the story of
Bernard Rutherford . Rutherford (right) lost to the Georgia State Professional Light Heavyweight Title to Brett Chism at Winter Heat 2009. Since then, Rutherford has pursued a rematch with Chism to the point that he often would confront Chism at various shows around Georgia.
When approached weeks ago, Rutherford jumped at the chance to rematch Chism and asked for a shot at the Georgia State Professional Middleweight Title. All was then arranged and promotion was built around this match, which is evident in the promotional video for this event, radio, and other advertising.
Last week, the Bud Light’s Summer Heat promoter received the phone call that every promoter dreads. Rutherford, the match for a popular local fighter in the main event, was injured and unable to compete.
So, the search began for a suitable opponent. Matt Dorsten was found. Dorsten is 30 years old and originally from Ohio. Dorsten now resides in the Orlando, Florida, area. He trains at American Top Team.
American Top Team is one of the premier MMA teams in the world. They have trained and placed multiple world class fighters in the UFC, Pride, Strikeforce, Dream, M1, and other promotions.
The other issue for Chism and the VMAC Fight Team is that Dorsten represents a sort of anomaly. That is, at Chism’s level (over 20 professional fights), usually video and information are well available on opponents through an easy search of the internet. Only Dorsten’s record and a few photos were available on the internet.
Dorsten just returned his contract today. This would be the day prior to the deadline for the fight card’s submission to the Georgia Atheltic and Entertainment Commission.
So, faced with the challenge of a short notice, unknown opponent with a very high percentage of wins from a team of multiple world champions, Chism will step in the cage Saturday night. He will attempt to unravel the riddle of Matt Dorsten and keep the Heat title belt in Valdosta as his fans, friends, family, and fight team cheer him on.

Matt is out of The Jungle MMA in Orlando, not ATT.
