Team Darkside Fighters Debut at Bud Light’s Summer Heat

Fight fans from across the Azalea City area are burning up 
the ticket hotlines because two elite Valdosta athletes are throwing their hats into the cage at Bud Light’s Summer Heat. Codey Eddy (left AND ABOVE — CLICK PHOTO ABOVE FOR MORE PHOTOS) and Logan “The Cobra” Jones have formed TEAM DARKSIDE, along with Heat Promotions standout fighter David Stephenson.
These two accomplished athletes have changed their normal powerlifting routines to encompass a wide variety of fight training. The Cobra can be seen in one of his bodybuilding competitions below:
Eddy is slated to face up and comer Tuzer Chism (1-0) in a novice amateur rules match at Summer Heat. Chism defeated Steve Davis via headkick KO in his debut at Winter Heat.
The Cobra is set in what area fight pundits are calling a March – November match against the patriarch of Valdosta Martial Arts Center fighters, Brent “The War Machine” Johnson. Johnson with a amateur record of 4-4 and at 40 years of age is eager to get back in the cage and match his experience and determination against the 21 year old Jones’ athleticism and power.
Whatever happens, the Heat promotion has been assured repeatedly that the fans are going to benefit and enjoy quality matches when TEAM DARKSIDE fighters make their debut at Bud Light’s Summer Heat.

All I can say is this..I have no plans to stop fighting anytime soon. I fight because it is fun…no other reason. I am sure that a rematch can be arranged. I dont turn down fights, I see it as a priviledge to fight and will take whatever comes along.
VMAC fan unfortunately you know nothing about VMAC and are hiding behind the name…Not a single thing I have said was not 100 percent true! Yes he did talk trash after the fight. I am done with this silliness….I do believe they did good for their first fight. Further I am glad that there are other teams in the area that can compete. I have alot of respect for many of them, one of my favorite fighters in the area is Stephen Eakins not just because of how he fights but because of how he carries himself and represents his school. If anyone has any doubt about how VMAC is represented then apparently you have not seen the talent that comes out of there. I am in no way trying to defend myself many others seen the fight, hell there will be video of it. As far as acting my age LOL at 40 years old, I still enjoy fighting win or lose, I am having fun. If you are a true fan get off your tail come on in VMAC and show us how to represent otherwise you have only your words and annonimity. By the way here is the Facebook post you speak of..tell me what part is trash and not 100 percent true.. (I won the fight..dominated the first two rounds and in the third my frustrated opponent was DQ for illegal strikes…I may be old but I am not out!)
You guy’s should get in touch with the paper and help adjust it, Tuzur did not get disqualified he did nothing during the entire fight to get disqualified he followed the rules (minus grabbing his shorts a time or two which you have photo proof of on your own site but that’s not enough to get DQ’ed) and fought a clean fight,the Referee stopped the fight to protect his arm and shoulder from a nasty submission that he was trying to tough out and not tap to(and more power to him i didn’t sugar coat it then and won’t know the kid was tough saturday night),i look forward to you clearing that matter up and helping put the truth out there before people get real upset and think you guy’s are trying to be shady and not forthcoming with the truth i would hate to hear such a thing.
andrew. really man are you that ignorant? grabbing your own shorts to keep from getting submitted is perfectly legal. go check the rules. its legal in ga and legal in the unified rules. yes there is a great pic on the website of tuz grabbing his own shorts but hey, the ref didnt even know it was legal until after the fight when the commissioner informed him.
Andrew because you did show class at the fight I am not saying this to start an argument. To my knowledge there is no rule saying you cant grab your OWN shorts to defend a submission for what its worth the Ref got that call wrong. The rest is true Tuzer did not get DQ’d. I know the Referee’s history and I get why he called it wrong. He himself is an outstanding Grappler and has competed in and won many grappling matches. In submission grappling it is illegal to grab your shorts but not in M.M.A. I have not a clue if it would have changed the outcome of that fight that is something that will be debated till who knows when.
Brett-Negative i’m not that ignorant and if it’s legal then why is it anytime anyone does it they make him stop? Regardless of that man your brother put up a hell of a fight and was tough as nails i’m not down talking him at all for his effort that would def be ignorant on my part,i am stating the nonsense in the paper about him being Dq’ed and that you guy’s are contesting his lose was incorrect,he was not disqualified and as i said in the first post did nothing to justify being disqualified the fight was stopped to protect his shoulder just like they said at the meeting you guy’s were late for that if they felt at anytime anyone was in a “Oh $h!t” position as they put it and didn’t tap they would stop the fight to protect the fighter and that’s exactly what they did in the 2nd round,i’m trying to clear things up and stay respectful and don’t want it to come off as you guy’s being shady is all,now if your doing it on purpose then i will get the commission involved plain and simple we’re grown men here and will conduct ourself as such so let’s clear this up the easy way fellas.
Andrew, I was the one that posted about the holding of your own shorts not Chism. Because I am not perfect and wanted to make sure that I was correct..I personally researched the rule and found that I am indeed correct. In M.M.A. you can grab your own shorts but not your opponents to defend a submission. I have no stake in the rest of your argument but can tell you from experience that the paper prints inaccuracies every day. The people writing the stories are human just like the rest of us. V.M.A.C. does not dictate what the paper prints.
You would be correct i looked into it myself(at the time of me posting i hadn’t seen your last comment hence why it seemed i was speaking to you when i was simply responding to chism),again as i stated though even “IF” and that’s a huge if since it is not agaisnt the rules but “IF” grabbing your own shorts was illegal that would not justify a dq in my opinion and we simply took offense to the paper seeing as how it said it was directly qouting your sensei’s thoughts and intentions again if that is not true and the comments were not made i would suggest taking it up with the paper and clarifying what was said as it comes off as you guy’s being bad sports and basicly trying to take a hard fought victory away from our team,congrats to all the winning and losing combatants for stepping into the cage and throwing down.

I want to thank Team Darkside for stepping up on the first outing to tough competition. You guys have a lot of respect from me for that.
Now, I think the easiest way for us to settle all the controversy is to simply do it again. VMAC wasn’t happy with Tuzer’s result and Darkside probably wasn’t happy with Logan’s result.
I propose we rematch at Winter Heat and make it for Heat Title Belts in the respective weight classes. What do you say gentlemen?

We respectufully decline sir,we do not intend on fighting or participating in any futher fights in valdosta ga what so ever,we simply want it cleared up that tuzur was not dq’ed and the fight was stopped due to a submission to protect him fron serious shoulder damage as well as the ability to fight again giving codey the win via submission.
As far as how logans fight went no whe’re not happy that it went the way we would have much rather seen him get his first win via k.o however a mistake was made and we have to live with that and do so graciousley since no one gave him any chance and thought he would lose in the first round via ko as it played out we all know that’s not how it ended and he never gave up like many many people assumed and said he would.
Hahaha the front man is turning down rematches? That’s funny.

Tuzer,Brent, Codey, and Logan deserve respect for getting in there and fighting, and I say congrats to you guys. The only way this will clear up are rematches!
Sensei has offered titles to be put titles on the line, why would those REAL fighters turn that down?

Andrew- Logan did a good job in the fight …. He stayed strong and was for the most part better than I expected! That being said he is new to the sport and young fighter like many others have done he lost control of himself. I did get rocked in round three but recovered before I hit the ground ” it’s called a flash out” and at best I would have recieved an eight count. That is the amature rule for knockdowns! If u have put in any time sparring you should know what I’m talking about… It happens alot in mma! At best he would have won round three ! He is a strong and tuff young guy…. I’m an old guy just having fun.. Let him fight for the title. If he were to win it’s something he would always cherish and I would be honored to get back in the cage with him. I’d jump at the chance to have a heavyweight belt to put next to my superheavy weight belt! As a represenative of team darkside you should get ur guys as many fights as u can especially if they have ambitions of fighting pro. There are not alot of people that would pass this chance up! Sensei if he does pass I hope u find me another opponent I’d really like to fight for another title!

What kind of team goes around and talks trash about other teams that fight as well? Team Darkside is talking so much trash yet when VMAC Sensei James Corbett gives you the chance to get back in the ring, and prove yourself and your own training you “respectfully decline..”. There is nothing about this team that is respectful and you have shown that with your actions this past Saturday night, and whatever way you try to reconcile yourself won’t work. Actions speak louder then words. Maybe you need to go back and talk to your mama and learn how to respectfully speak with people and treat people how you wish to be treated. As far as I’m concerned your no better then the gum I took off my shoe this morning.
I think it’s fucked up a bunch of vmac fans are talking about acting professional, when team darkside had nothing but respectful words at the fight and did what they came there to do “Fight”. Then somebody doesn’t like the outcome of the fight and lie’s about the outcome completely. Tuzor lost because of the ref’s decision on the submission. NOT because of a DQ. Talking about being professional, they can’t even except the truth. How more blunt could you get. I wouldn’t wanna fight here in valdosta either if someone came to a fight with respect and good faith only to have it shit on in the end. The paper didn’t even say anything about codey eddy even winning. Instead they put up a picture of him getting tagged like that will do justice to the outcome. It shows atleast no matter what the outcome was, atleast everyone can see who the men in this situation were. TEAM DARKSIDE I HAVE MUCH RESPECT FOR YALL. Why is it that if all these people disagree with what the paper says that not one of them take the initiative to correct it ….oh yea because its not that easy…the paper prints what they want its privately owned and sure as hell isnt controlled by VMAC. This whole situtation is messed up.I myself have never heard of a reverse ref decision i thought once that call was made it stands seems to me you vmac fighters cant take a loss and be happy for the competition. You can only win thats bad sportsmanship and Corbett knows that. If he was a respectable trainer leader or what ever he considers himself he would instill better sportmanship into his fighters! Why would any one want to fight vmac if its all about you it benefits no one else the outcome would still be the same if you dont win somebody fouled you or bad ref decision! And you make your phone call and have it fixed it to your advantage thats pretty desperate and sad. In reading all this controversy i dont think anyone should want to be associated with vmac!
Concerned citizen WTH are you talking about? Sensei Corbett not only thanked them for fighting but also stated that they earned his respect. Then he offered them the opportunity to fight for title belts. Are you kidding me…most people that get this type of opportunity have been fighting much longer than any of Team Darksides Fighters. Further there ARE rules even in M.M.A. unfortunately some people do not understand them as well as others. None the less they are the rules. Should a fighter be rewarded for violating the rules? Should a bad call by a ref be overlooked so he can make the same mistake again? These actions directly affect the outcome of fights and the safety of the fighters. It is easy for people to critique fighters and coaches but most of those doing so have no idea what it is like to do either job. Sportsmanship-sportsmanship refers to virtues such as fairness, self-control, courage and persistence. Good Sportsmanship requires all of the previously mentioned. Not a single person that I have talked to has blamed Codey for the refs call. Codey fought a good fight and did what he was suppose to do and all of us appreciate that.

First off, team darkside was NOT talking shit at the fight and they did not decline sensei offer for a rematch, that asshole andrew did without even talking to the guys before he came back and said no. This will be my last post on this topic so bear with me while i sort out how to say what i truly want to say,first of all i never said anything i wasn’t asked of to say i did speak with both of my little brothers/team mates before responding to james’s invitation and codey himself has affirmed that with a member of vmac that trains with brent and made sure he understood it was there decision not mine i just got to be the poor bastard to relay the message while ignorance overood intelligence and lashed out at me,secondly myself and codey started this team and months later brought in logan because he is a great kid with a great passion to learn and an awesome attitude about this great sport if you truly know him or logan then you know me if you don’t know me then your speaking out of turn with no real knowledge of who we really are and what we really do.
Thirdly and i direct this to brent,i may night see eye to eye with your opinion and may disagree with your out look on some topics here i DO have a common respect for you speaking your mind and opinion in an intelligent manner and your age shows by how you present yourself and have stayed respectful even while disagreeing with me and know that’s not an old joke just pure truth,again as i stated saturday night a mistake was made at the end of your’s and logans fight but we are not dirty fighters and do not want people to make that assumption of us hence why i had no problem shaking your’s and james’s hand and saying that’s not who we are i didn’t regret that then and i damn sure do not know i would shake both your hands again at the end of that fight even after all this nonsesnse people have spewed at myself and towards our team.

We came in saturday and showed respect and let all the trash talk slide,we never said a negative thing about anyone coming up to the fights,you didn’t hear us on the radio talking about our opponents being out of their realm now did you? You didn’t see us putting articles in the paper downplaying our opponents abilities now did you? And you never saw us bashing anyone on a web page now did you? so that’s all i have to say on the matter and that is not a broad spectrum comment towards all vmac guy’s just a few bad apples it seems and that’s unfortunate.
Again good job to those who competed and to those who helped train and get there teammates/fighters ready anyone who has been in this game as long as myself(going on 7 years)and several others in this thread knows how hard and stressful it is,it is not what you see on t.v it is hard work,dedication and sacrifice anyone speaking that has never stepped foot in the ring is simply a monday morning quarterback in my eyes and just because your from valdosta and never heard of someone doesn’t discredit there abilities or who they are as a person so maybe next time a few people in this thread who i have actually heard good things about won’t be so closed minded.
